It is no secret that backlinks have superseded meta tags and directory submissions as the way to Page Rank glory and massive traffic stampedes. To obtain these coveted backlinks most bloggers and internet marketers leave comments on websites that have the famous “do follow” tag which basically means Google’s robot crawlers will “follow” that particular link thereby giving a vote to the site that the link leads to. And of course, the higher the PR of the site you comment on, the more weight the backlink you receive holds.
However, the heaviest weighted backlink is where your live link is contained in an actual article or blog post. One reason for this is that it’s the primary content search engine robots read first. If you don’t believe me, then just use the search engine robot simulator on one of your favorite sites to see what I mean. Also, a post tends to stay on a site forever or at least as long as the site is operational which means a longer lasting vote for your link…the more votes your link gets, the higher it rises in Page Rank which generates more search engine traffic
Although, there are methods such as contest posting, blog post swapping, and “riffing” to obtain such weighty backlinks, the best method is for another blogger to simply write about you on his/her own giving praise for some of your work. This is a backlink you did not even have to work for! I obtained such a backlink from Mitch who is an exceptionally good writer at his I’m Just Sharing blog.
Upon noticing this backlink from checking my stats, I immediately went to his site and promised I would reciprocate. Well, days went by while my workload doubled and I still hadn’t reciprocated yet. And just to be clear, NOT keeping your word is a good way to ruin your reputation in any setting.
Mitch -being the smart blogger he is- hit my comments section up with his jewels of wisdom to the point of making it in my Top Commentators spot which inevitably gave him a live link back that expands throughout my whole site!
Most Top Commentator widgets are “do follow” and are contained on nearly every page of a site, so no matter where a visitor or search engine robot goes they will see it…this multiplies the amount of backlinks you get spelling MASSIVE EXPOSURE!
Now to be honest, I don’t know if this was Mitch’s actual intentions, but it is a worthy thing to think about when you link to webmasters who act like they don’t want to link back to you

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback March 27th, 2009 at 2:13 pmWow Caleb, thanks for the love! I really appreciate it. As for top commenters lists, no, I don’t try to move up higher on those lists. Most of the time, I don’t even know that sites have those things, even though I have one on my blog. I just like to share and offer my opinion on things, and of course I like to learn, which is why I visit lots of other blogs in the first place.
And it’s great meeting new people who appreciate what you do, so I thank you again.

I think I know Mitch pretty well and I reckon he only comments when he has something useful to say. If that comment gets him on the Top Comments plugin then all well and good, but I don’t think that is his intention, unlike some people who try to leave a multitude of short comments just to make the list. I usually go through them and delete the useless ones.

Thanks for the support, Sire, but I don’t think Caleb was accusing me of anything.
By the way, Caleb, I have an interesting idea for a post from you. I noticed you have an affiliate ad on the side there about profiting from Craigslist. Whenever I add something new, I usually write an article about it. I looked at your ad, and I have to say that I’m not crazy about it because, well, it really doesn’t say anything once you click on it. I also went and did some research on Google, and all I came up with were other people selling the same product. Have you tried this, and if so, what is it about and how has it worked for you?

This particular product was a added mostly based on niche research (similar to the research one would do to find a profitable ClickBank product to promote) for a project involving making money with CPA offers and this had the parameters of being a “winner”…as I recently added it, I’m still gathering intel.

Staying on the top commentator list is also a great way to show other bloggers who visit a site that you are someone who will be more likely to interact with them. Therefore, they will more than likely come visit your site too!

Ever since I started using free traffic system, getting backlinks has become really easy. Moreover they’re relevant and free, I’ll recommend all fellow bloggers to check out the service, I wrote an introductory review of it on my blog.

I too have this widget on my blog. I think the reason for people not wanting to link back because people get off of subject and post links in the comment box. I consider blogging a cool thing for many on the internet. Helping others with linking for legitimate reasons is being generous IMO.

Wow… You’ve opened my eyes big time with this blog post.
I’d no idea that a constant update of relevant comments would cause me to get the “Prime” commentators spot, and that way my link would be shown throughout a blog.

Wow, I always thought any backlink was like a “point” for you website. The more points, the better rankings. I had no idea that some links were worth more points than others. One day I will figure this internet marketing thing out. THanks for the great posts!

one of the main thing to actually get through on a blog and get that valued backlink is to really get in the conversation and leave a good comment.
[Reply]
I think you’re right on Caleb, when you state that the best link is in the article or body of text on a blog. However for most of us that is not likely. So we make blog comments, do our article marketing and use every other tactic (hopefully ethical) available to us.

This is for everyone, one thing we should do is actually when we get through on a blog and we get the valued backlink is really makes the conversations very nice and we should leave a good comment..
