eMail marketing is one of the best tactics for making money online as it provides a way for you to reach consumers in an intimate way – through their personal emails that they read. This closely resembles the old catalog subscriptions that big department stores such as Sears used to do in that it enables you to contact a customer later in the future when you have more offers that they may be interested in after they bought from you once. Email marketing includes but not limited to:
- >> building your own list – this where you put up a signup form for people to enter their name and email which goes into an autoresponder for you to be able to contact them periodically throughout time. It often works best by giving away something of value for free which the potential customer can only get by subscribing.
- >> buying solo ads – where you contact someone who has already built up a decently responsive list and let them mail your offer to his/her list. This makes perfect sense considering that list owner already has a special relationship with his/her customers and can basically endorse your product or service to a proven customer base..some list owners will even write the email for you. Of course it is only wise that you have something to offer that relates to the things those subscribers are already interested in.
- >> advertising in ezines – an ezine is like an “electronic magazine” that many people receive in their emails and resembles pretty much like ,well a MAGAZINE. You can pay for advertising placement within that ezine as well as buy solo ads to send out to its subscribers therein.
Although many bigtime marketers do not care to admit it, the above tactics are how the majority of their money is made. Making money online is so much easier once you have a list of 10,000 or more subscribers because all you literally have to do is write a simple email recommending a particular product or service then hit SEND and you will be raking in the dough.
Now just imagine if you recommended a product that netted you a profit of $10 and only400 subscribers out of that 10k list clicked through then you would have made $4,000! The bigtimers are doing far better than that and this is how many of them make 5 figures consistently a month! But even with these types of success stories there are still many who have not tried email marketing yet. Recently a commenter said this very thing on my Follow Up Email Sequences To Send To Your List post and it sparked me to respond as follows:

But seriously, it took me quite a while to start email marketing and I was somewhat intimidated with the idea of writing emails to people in order to promote something that would earn me commissions, BUT this IS the business of internet marketing just as writing articles, ads, social marketing, etc!
Building an email list of customers ensures a steady income especially if that customer was satisfied with their purchase…they will in fact be far more inclined to buy from you again.
Just think about it for a second: these are ppl who you can engage for months and months instead of just getting a onetime sale then never seeing them again and having to spend more marketing dollars just to reach one more.
But since some aren’t too sure of what to say/write to a potential customer who has subscribed to their list, the beauty and ingenuousness of these “programs” is that they offer emails already pre-written for you to ngage those customers once they get on your list. And the 3rd option even includes a way for you to capture the customers name and email so that you can reach them at a later date.
From browsing your site, I am sure you are well aware of the famous marketing statistics on how it takes the average person to see your marketing message at least 7 times before they buy from you, well email marketing is an extremely cost-effective way for reaching that goal and beyond..

There is one more thing that email marketing accomplishes which every single person who ever thought about making money online needs. Email marketing provides a steady reliable source of traffic visiting your site. While others have to spend more and more money to keep their traffic flowing, you’ll have your loyal subscribers (who have already proven their willingness to buy) visiting your site time and time again.
To put it simply, if you are not doing any email marketing then you are leaving money on the table, so step it up and try email marketing today!

@Arjun Rai, with strong email marketing the recipient has to optin in to receive messages from you therefore it is NOT spam. The keys to keeping them engaged and opening your emails is to have a strong headline that makes them want to open along with the right type of content and the right frequency rate at which you send the messages

One more thing, Repeat email communication is very important or try an autoresponder is an email that is scheduled to be sent at a certain time interval after someone subscribes to your mailing list. Autoresponders are a great way to automatically follow up with your subscribers or provide them with more information on your products/services.

Hi Caleb, I have several sites and lists and this year I decided, for the first time, to offer a Black Friday thru Cyber Monday sale to just one small list (1,100). The response has been incredible. I didn’t expect anything link that. List building is VERY important.

@Brian D. Hawkins, I feel ya and although I am still in the midst of mastering the finer arts of email marketing, the thing that gets me too is even with a small list you can have more successful conversions than all the seo’ing and article marketing put together..
But then again you might wanna use some of those things in order to build a list

@Caleb, I’ve had very large lists that had pathetic open rates, much less convert. Just like traffic, it’s all about targeted subscribers. Ten thousand people giving junk emails to get free products amount to nothing but a higher monthly payment to AWeber. That doesn’t mean it’s bad to offer a free product, it’s all about balance.
I used to do everything I could to grow my lists as big and as fast as possible. Now I allow them to grow naturally with subscribers that actually want the content. That keeps the spam complaints and bounces in check too. Sorry, this is one of my favorite subjects. lol

@Brian D. Hawkins, This is indeed a subject that needs to discussed. One way I have recently discovered to get ppl’s real emails instead of the junk ones is to to get readers to subscribe using a Facebook Connect button because that way they do not have to enter their names or emails at all and you know the email is their main one because it’s the one they used when signing up for Facebook…in fact it’s the one they use to check their important messages
I’ve tested it out and it works like a charm so recently I put it on my Facebook fanpage for visitors to get the WP Mail Advertiser plugin after they click LIKE..

@sai krishna, Aweber is far superior because of the many different types of niche lists you are allowed to build along with the fact Aweber is recognized amongst the major email services which ensures your messages will not go into the recipient’s junk or spam folder

@James, It sounds like you’re referring to “buying leads” which is something I have not delved into because many autoresponder services are reluctant to allow you to upload paid-for-leads into their systems so that you can email them. However I do purchase solo ads and honestly, the only way to know which list owners have subscribers that are good for your offer is to TEST.
Research for some recommendations and then test on your own which of course means you will have to spend money as I have done…but I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it definitely pays off when you find a good resource.

@Monica, Simply put it’s the same as you would for anything else: find out who the exact types of people are who would be interested in your ref-feral service along with where they hang out online then interact with them at that place preferably directing them to a signup page so you could capture their name and email in order to contact them consistently
Now I know that may sound a bit too simple, but this is how to do it and there are tools that help with this and as long as you visit here at MSB you’ll be connected with the latest& greatest!

I agree with you 100%.I speak from my own personal experience when I say that email marketing is the most effective marketing strategy out there. It takes only little time to set up and it has the biggest return for the money invested.
All you need is a good email template go get you potential new customers interested in to opening the email and a good email database with opt-in email addresses that you can gather on your own or purchase form an email list provider.
I buy my email lists from http://www.emaillistus.com/schools-email-list.html and so far it is as good as it gets.

@archon, Thanks for the comment. Buying an email list is a faucet of email marketing I haven’t ventured into yet as I am having much success and fun with solo ads plus some autoresponders tend to frown upon it, but I will take a serious look at your site there.
