If you’re in any kind of online business, you are going to want to learn how to use and master all kinds of website traffic sources. In order to gain new customers, you are going to need people to visit and see your website. This should be obvious although many sometimes forget this simple truth. With that being said, there are a lot of different ways to get traffic to your website. Some methods are excellent, and some methods are difficult to master. No matter which method you decide to use, become a master of your traffic craft.
How can I find out what are the best website traffic sources?
Let’s define quickly which kinds of traffic are best for your website. Again, this should be obvious, but you want to gain visitors to your website who are looking for what you have to offer. Any type of visitor is enough to get you excited in the beginning, however if you’re reading this, you are in this business to make money. This will create the desire to gain the most targeted visitors to ensure the highest possible conversions, or your visitor to customer ratio.
What are some of the best website traffic sources?
There are countless ways to get more visitors, but some methods are just plain more effective than others. You need to master 2 methods: One paid method, and one free, long term method. The free methods are not quick by any means but can be very targeted, sustainable, and sticky. Some of these traffic sources can be: Article marketing, forum marketing, and guest blogging. These will all help you get search engine traffic and long term, sustainable traffic. As far as paid traffic goes, solo ezine ads are probably the best bet for the quickest and most targeted results.
How can I get the most results from these website traffic sources?
The secret to mastering these traffic sources is consistency, tracking, testing, enhancing, and improving. You need to consistently work the free methods and get yourself known and respected with the paid methods. You need to track your advertisements and improve on what you have. The easiest way is to create two different ads and split test them. Once you find out which one works better (over a longer period of time) create a new ad and split test that with your winning ad. The testing and tracking period never ends, so enjoy it!
What is the recommended path of action?
Take one single traffic method, such as article marketing, and purchase a detailed, updated, well reviewed course on that method. Become a master of your chosen method and use the method until you are generating a steady stream of leads and customers. At the same time, send a large solo ezine ad to a very targeted newsletter to get an instant rush of new leads and customers. This will help you gain more customers while you master your chosen long term traffic method. Once you become a master of that method, add another website traffic source to your arsenal.

@online money earning, well one traffic source can be better depending on the type of page and its corresponding subject matter that receives the traffic which is WHy you have to test several sources.
BUT don’t make the mistake of just jumping around from tactic to tactic until you’ve fully grasped each one

Thanks a lot for sharing your insights. Very helpful. I think at the end of the day it is rather the quality not the quantity of traffic that counts. It is the same principal as for content qualty over quantaty

Traffic is vitally important but so is targeted traffic. You may only need 20 people on your website a day but if you sell to 1/4 of them you’re doing well.

Traffic is the real source of your income. When you have more of it you have a lot more options to choose from. It is like herding. You get a lot of people to feed with information and in exchange you get some of them to buy your affiliate products and you receive income.

The paradox of search engine traffic is that although its the best in that it is free and super high quality, it puts you at the mercy of companies like google and yahoo.

@Dan, it also costs the one thing we can never get back: TIME … it takes more time to implement search engine optimization methods -unless you use a SEO service like this one- and more time to see results from it.

I usually do a lot of research to see where my current traffic is coming from and try to build my strategies on what has worked in the past. If you use Statcounter for example, it has a feature where you can see where visitors came from. (I assume all statistics tools have this feature.) I then analyze what seems to work for that particular niche. Do a lot of people come in from a blog comment? Or do a lot of bloggers mention my sites? It’s different for different niches. Adult sites for examples get a lot of traffic from link farms even, but this is not the case for most sites.

@Gabrielle, I too get into seeing where my traffic comes from especially when it comes to what keywords from which search engines are bringing me traffic -even basic WordPress stats shows this- as I then can use those keywords more often in my posts and tags. What this equates to is more traffic coming from SEO.
My focus is now leaning more toward paid traffic in efforts to get faster results

Why not going after PPC advertising? Search engines are the best way to bring traffic and if your ad appears on the top of the page, who cares if it is a paid or organic listing, you will get targeted traffic for sure.
What do you think?

@electronic components shop, The expensive costs nowadays -especially with google ppc- make it an out of reach option for the average marketer. However, there are other alternatives like the low cost resources here or even inside my free Paid Traffic Report(which may not be free for much longer)

@Becca, BUT even the best of plans can fail if we don’t have the right resources… so have you read my Paid Traffic Report yet
Make sure you read it now as I don’t intend for it to be free for too long

“The free methods are not quick by any means but can be very targeted, sustainable, and sticky.” – Agree. Free methods need a longer time frame in a marketing strategy compared to paid ones but the effects are also, as you said, sustainable. Plus, since it’s free, it’s also business-budget friendly.
