The art of making money online can be a daunting tedious task. In fact, it can become so tedious that many would-be netrepreneurs end up giving up. How is it that guys like John Chow, Shoemoney, and Darren Rowse can make $1,000’s from one recommendation?
It is because they have already paid their dues. They have put in the necessary study hours along with countless trial and error experiments to know what works from what doesn’t. They have steadily been consistent with blogging, writing content, and interacting with social networks years before most of us got into this business ;thus, they have long acquired the famous “buzz” that ring inside of a person’s head saying:
I could’ve sworn I heard of that guy (or product) before…or that name sounds familiar?
Even if the person considering the recommendation doesn’t have any real knowledge of the one doing the recommending, they just assume that if so and so recommends it, it must be good/worthy…all because the particular recommender’s name became so “associated” with the niche you’re checking out! That person has undoubtedly come into contact with the particular recommender in some shape, form, or fashion enough times for that name to have been subconsciously embedded in their minds. This is the power of branding which usually starts from a buzz – your name being associated with expertise in some type of niche.
So BUZZ is what you need to be successful at making money online, huh? And if so, how do you get it and spread it?
One method I have found that works is sharing your knowledge on blogs and forums in the same niche as yours. Since it makes for interesting story on how I arrived at this methodology as well as being highly relevant, I’ll tell it now:
The first niche I chose to make money online in was the online shopping niche because it appeared to contain what I figured were products the general population wanted. Since I knew little about internet marketing I began to seriously study as much as I could on the subject while constantly reading marketing blogs and googling everything I had read or even heard a brief rumor about. After about a year of money making successes and failures along with meticulous blog and forum reading I began to realize I had answers to many of the questions other people were asking…I had somehow “jumped” up the ladder of internet marketing knowledge!
I soon found myself freely and effortlessly providing helpful answers to questions regarding making money online. And the best part of it was receiving thank yous and praises for the insights I had given which actually attained some good for those who followed it. This verified in my mind that I had indeed jumped to a higher level. This “buzz” I seemed to be generating motivated me to to start the Netrepreneurs Blog which was later renamed MarketSecrets.biz.
I was on a “high” from this buzz feeling just as good as one would feel from the buds that make you weiser
…that is, until I ran into Mirjam – who killed my buzz!
She wrote a post about article marketing on which I commented by basically saying having a buzz first would make your articles be taken more seriously. She replied with actual results to boot proving that you didn’t necessarily need a “buzz”. In fact, a “nobody” could write just the right article (in a certain format) and begin receiving just as much targeted traffic as a so-called “somebody”. The secret according to Mirjam is to use an already successfully proven article template which can be easily found on EzineArticle Blog.
To me, these templates did not seem to have the right flow for what i consider to be a worthy article, but the marketers who make the most profits from writing articles were most definitely using these types of templates! And since I try to obey my motto at all times, the very next article I wrote was formatted using one of the more successful article templates. Shortly after it was approved I noticed a spike on traffic I had not experienced when previously submitting articles in the past…so it is looking good so far.
Now I still believe having a buzz FIRST can dramatically improve the success rate of an article marketing campaign or Twitter followship, but let’s face it, most of us simply aren’t popular enough like John Chow, Shoemoney, or Darren Rowse. And the time spent trying to reach that popularity could be better spent writing quality articles based on a winning formula.
Besides generating targeted traffic for your offers, writing better articles also generates a buzz as well. So the potential for making more sales and getting a buzz can go hand in hand, but you do not necessarily need a BUZZ first
Happy Blogging

sorry for being the buzz killer LOL although it is kind of nice to see that you actually did try it out and get to see your own result :)
Over time my thoughts regarding buzz and article marketing have changed quite a bit and I don´t think one should compare an article written with the purpose of “quality content” on your own site with articles that one uses for article marketing (plus I think there are different types of articles used for different goals you want to obtain when it comes to that same article marketing) but will probably post on that once my case study week is finished-ish.
Thanks for mentioning me,
cheers!

Couple of things first, Caleb.
One, Mirjam is a “she”; you have “he” in your post. lol
Second, is there a word or link missing here: They have steadily with blogging, writing content,…”?
Third, Mirjam and I have talked about this thing called article marketing. I haven’t had her success, but she has given me an idea, something that’s not a common thing for me, in regards to some articles. So, I’m planning on writing a series of five articles on a topic, shorter articles where I don’t fully answer something, to see if it draws people to any of my websites. Should be interesting to see if I get any type of traffic spike from them.

I didn’t know that there were article templates. It’s hard for me to adapt my writing to some kind of formula, but I did see improvement on my site simply by applying the certain kinds of “killer headlines” that the top bloggers suggest, such as # of ways to, how to do ___, etc. Those do grab reader attention, and lots of comments.
