Widgets(or Plugins) are all those different gadgets you usually see in the sidebars of many blogs and web2.0 sites that basically allow visitors to interact directly with your site. Widgets also make controlling your site design,rotating your ads, and keeping in touch with your readers a cinch.
There seems to be hundreds of widgets available that perform all types of functions,many of which are necessary in order to compete with other sites in this web2.0 era.

Plugins basically makes a blogger’s life a whole lot easier…so here I’d like to pique your interest in some of WordPress’s lesser known plugins that takes care of various blogging tasks:
- Odiogo – makes all your posts vocally speak to your readers like podcasting without actually having to podcast…click on the ‘Listen Now’ speaker symbol you see after my post titles to hear it in action.
- Tell-A-Friend Social Twist – embeds a tell a friend script at the end of your posts enabling visitors to submit your posts to various social networks,websites, and especially to your friends via their email address. I know you’ve heard this before,but this particular one enables the sharing to be done without the sharer leaving your site…try it out at the end of this post by simply hovering over it.
- Do-Follow – allows your visitor’s comments to be crawled by search engine robots so that those comments can be found by real internet surfers via their favorite search engine.
- EverMore – abbreviates all posts when viewed on multiple post pages. This makes all posts behave as if there is a “<!–more–>” at an appropriate spot inside the content. In other words it gives a snippet of your posts forcing readers to “click through” to read the rest.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback December 16th, 2008 at 1:49 pmI currently use Do Follow and it works well. I did however have major issues trying to use the tell a friend plugins. Every time I loaded them, my blog loaded so slow I could not stand it and I removed them. I will take a look at this one, as it is different.

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend is probably the fastest widget in the category. The widget size is just 48k (typical size of a single banner ad), which is extremely small given the kind of connectivity options it provides. That’s the main problem with many plugins…they slow your site down!
But like the SocialTwist team commented(thanx for visiting btw)the size of their widget is so small that it’ll affect your loading time about the same as a banner…which is very minimal.
I’m not quite sure on how the Do-Follow affects loading,but one plugin that should help speed up your loading is the new SuperCache plugin…I haven’t completed its installation on this site yet because it’s a bit more technically involved than other plugins.

There are different thoughts and opinions regarding all plugins of Word press. I have been running almost 10 blogs and none of them have all the listed plugins here. I think all of them must have them. I am impressed with the voice plugin the most. I have ” no follow free” plugin instead of ” do follow” here but I think both do the same thing. Thanks for sharing other plugins.

Dinodel: “Do-Follow” means that the technological workings of the link(s) on a particular site allows search engines -like Google,MSN,Yahoo,etc.- to index that link. This is what enables ppl to find your link/site from using their favorite search engine.
And you definitely want yours to be found don’t you?
Of course, “No-Follow” is the opposite…your link/site does NOT get indexed. As for finding Do-Follow sites read the following post: Blog Traffic For Free ;)

Caleb – Not accurate – Do Follow means the link will pass PR (page rank) from one site to the other.
ALL links do or no follow are crawled AND indexed by Google
Yahoo and MSN don’t follow those rules at all…yet.

Interesting…I stand corrected. From further research I also understand “no-follow” tags give instructions for the particular link to be ignored,but as Dennis stated it still gets indexed by Google.

Dennis: Everytime I italicize something using “[i][/i]” tags it automatically tags it with “[em][/em]“…I really don’t feel like going through the whole c-panel experience just to find where it’s doing this, but eventually I’ll have to because it’s annoying me.

Ben: As far as many others I’ve come across is concerned, it is obscure…many do not even have an understanding of what ‘Do-Follow’ means.
It’s amazing to see how far we’ve(those who do know this stuff) come…we take the little things we’ve learned for granted and figure everyone else automatically knows the same stuff.

The Do Follow tag is a good tool and it helps you build back links to your own blog. It’s smart when you think about it in a business way.
Mostly all of my Main Stream blogs that have Do Follow have many links which results in some pretty high Google rankings.
