I noticed spikes in traffic from implementing a very simple technique called pinging.
A ping is basically a notification to all the major blog networks that you have just updated your site with new content -usually a new blog post. Since the major networks are being viewed by thousands of eyeballs everyday there’s a high likelihood that you’ll get a few unique visitors to check out your new content. The most popular services are at Pingomatic.com or Pingoat.com where you enter a URL along with its title and then select the particular networks you want to be notified.
Most bloggers will just enter their website address, select all of the networks, then call it a day. However,I decided to a few extra miles:
- Submit the URL of the actual new post along with the exact title of that new post instead of merely the main website address
- Gain some knowledge on the various networks availablein order to know the right ones to select because some may not fit the category of your particular content
- Then submit your main website address along with the title of your entire site
- Next repeat the above three steps except this time you would submit the URLs to search engines like Google’s free site submission and Yahoo’s free link submission. Addme.com will submit your URLs to 14 search engines at a time also for free.
Within a few days to a few weeks you’ll see an increase in traffic…sometimes you see it an a matter of hours. Of course,to maximize the potential of thisyou can always use paid submission services.
If you would like to learn more about pinging then you really should read the My Blog And Ping Tutorial and remember: “The one who pings all things is on his way to being a traffic king!”
