Many times we as successful people get into the habit of saying “I” alot and we pat ourselves on the back when we attain certain goals. But is it “I” who truly deserves to be thanked?
Let’s take for example internet marketing. I knew next to nothing about it when I first started out. While doing a Google search around late 2003 I came stumbled across an ad saying I could make money without my own product or a website. I’d simply promote one of their already successful products using their sales material and they would split the profits with me. Thus, began my launch into affiliate marketing.
I also found a service that would email my sales message to a large email list of people who already had an interest in what I had to offer.
-SIDENOTE: Of course this was before SPAM laws got tight
To my surprise,I actually made a few sales so then it was on! Too bad that particular affiliate offer turned out to be trash.
Nevertheless, further studies made me realize I had to have my own website, but I didn’t know anybody in that field and even if I did I had no funds to hire them plus I didn’t even have a computer.
-SIDENOTE: I used the local college campus computers and the workers there used to clown me because I put in more hours than them
I searched the web for hours and days at a time to learn as much as I could. Finally,I built my first site and even taught myself all those tedious HTML code changes just from visiting some of my favorite sites and right-clicking to ‘View Source’ – which by the way turned out being the fastest learning method
Boy was I proud of ME…although sales were less than desireable.
I tried Google adwords and went broker than I already was…still nothing. “Build it and they will come” was the naive belief I had back then. After all,I had put in so many long hours at this thing being self-taught while everyone I was reading about obviously already had capital to spend big on advertising and seminars.
-SIDENOTE: I still have yet to go to an internet marketing seminar
But what was I missing?
I wasn’t interacting with others in internet marketing…I wasn’t interacting with potential customers through forums and other sites…I wasn’t even building a list! True wealth -as I ended up learning through spiritual studies- is a cooperative effort. No billionaire got there solely all by himself. Their wealth came from investing into and with 100′s even 1,000′s of other people whether it was with or without their knowledge.
My point: they had to socialize with certain “communities”.
Why? Because no man is an island. Those other people in those communities are the ones who deserved to be patted on the back. Nowadays in this web2.0 era all we hear about are the many “communities” we can join which has allowed many small-timers to explode their sales. This would not have been possible for someone with small budget, small knowledge, and BIG ego to accomplish. My new belief quickly changed to: if you start socializing with internet communities, then they will come! Just remember No Man Is An Island.

The best way to maximize your sales once someone lands on your website or online store is only Internet Marketing. We live in an entirely new world. A much ‘smaller’ and more competitive world. So here we really need to find attractive & effective sources……

No Man Is An Island = nice analogy.
I have to admit that when I first started out blogging and building online businesses, I was just as naive as you were when you started. I think most people are. You think that all you have to do is build it and they will come. Some will come. One or two please come. Okay, anybody, please anybody just come.
Then reality sets in and you realize that you can’t live like a hermit. You have to go meet people.
That is what I am trying to do with my newest site. I want to establish some new contacts and meet some people that I can develop lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with. Please pay me a visit if you are reading this. Yes you.

People tend to do things alone thinking that they can do things alone. Don’t get me wrong I’ve seen people who’ve done things alone and succeeded alone but it took them a long time to do it. So it’s better if you have at least someone to help you out.

You can’t even get a job at a grocery store as a bagger without the cooperation of others..for example, the hiring manager has to like you first!
Attaining wealth is a cummulative effort and all wealthy people know this, but its unfortunate that the immoralistic ones among them will sometimes attain that wealth without those “others” being aware they were used
Yet it still proves that No Man is an Island…

I guess it’s like the cocktail parties where people trade business cards and “mingle”—-online, you visit other blogs, comment and “mingle” all the while promoting your business. Enjoyed the reference to “No Man Is An Island” poem.

@Jason Mitchev,
True indeed…socializing on the web isn’t that much different from socializing in real life. In fact, both are real life it’s just that the flesh of the various parties aren’t in the same physical space. And of course we are more than just flesh, but I don’t want to get too metaphysical here as this isn’t the purpose of this particular blog….glad you stopped by

This post just serves to reflect how we should work together.
There’s no ‘I’ in team – we need strength from others to achieve better than what we aspire to be.

That is true. Even if you are only working from home, you don’t have to trap yourself alone. Attending seminars on online marketing is one good way to meet with folks with the same career and socialize with them.

Definitely right! The success of man in every aspect of life is not only the product of his own perseverance to succeed. The truth is, we are able to succeed in whatever things that we do, its because we have the reason to attain it. The people behind us are the source of strength to pursue our dreams to be successful. They are our inspiration to achieve something. Therefore, every island could not exist without the presence of other islands.

Oh this is very cool image but this is fact there is no man is island yes i see, keep posting we will wait for your future updates.

I really like this topic. You were able to connect internet marketing into the real life situation. I really agree that no one is an island. The fact is, we can’t live on our own. We need each other to succeed in everything that we are doing. “I” is selfish, therefore let’s make it a habit to transform it into “We” so that we can acknowledge that valuable helps that our fellow had extended to us.
[Reply]
“No man is an island”. It is one of the most popular saying we know. It reminds us that behind our success are the people who believe and supported as along the way. I like your blog. You make me realize that indeed we are not alone in our journey. You also taught us not to give up in the test of life. Just like your success in online marketing which will never be possible if not of your perseverance and drive to success. Congratulation.

This is my new motto now. It is indeed very true that “no man is an island”. We cannot survive all by ourselves. We need others just as plants need water or sunrise to survive. Nice post

Learning to interact with each other is the best way to know someone. Opinions of other people will give you knowledge that you can’t learn if you are always on your own. It is in the nature of man to interact with other people.

Nice post, i have read some of your sticky secrets. And i will comment on one of those particular article. About “No man is an Island”,that’s quite true. No one is living for his/her self alone. Everyone of us, needs one another to survive. No one can ever claim that he/she succeed for himself only and not with the help of other people.

Nice blog because aside from I enjoy reading it, I also learn something which I think could a little bit be useful. Yes. that’s true. “No man is an Island”. Nobody can live without the presence of others. Therefore, you really have to socialize yourself with other people and also in business. Communication is a need. No person will survive without the help of others. Your business will not survive without the presence of your customers, clients or stockholders. The Quotation is indeed, very true.

No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.~John Donne

There are only a few who get successful with an independent ownership especially in internet marketing. The trend in online markets, I suppose is, having a number of people to be partners to have visible growth in the future. This most likely ensure security when it comes to the business aspect.

In any plans and path that we take in our lives, we definitely need one another. Just like for example searching for some topics in the internet, we can’t get any results if no one has developed a site or provided an article about it. Also in school, our teachers instilled us knowledge and helped us to develop our skills that we can use in our fields. So we should look back and be thankful for them. It’s a give and take relationship, we gained something from others, so we should share it to others as well.

Indeed no man is an island, is similar to the known saying man cannot live in bread alone.
We humans need someone to depend on. In our most depressing moment we need someone to comfort us, in times that you feel you want to give up, we need someone to push us, cheer us up.That’s why we have our friends, we have our family who offer their undying love and support.

I believe that there is no successful man who attain his success without a help of someone. We may not be aware but it’s true. Someone’s always down there who keep pushing us to the top of our success. We should be thankful to those we treat and think as “little people” who works, supports and unconsciously helping us.

I always believe in that saying that “No man is an island” because as an entrepreneur or having any business, if you wanted it to grow successfully, you need to build a mutual relationship to other business persons. It is indeed true because I am engaged in different business after I graduated my Degree in Management and I find it so easy to run your business if you have partners on it.

At first sight Internet looks like working from a dark corner. In my beginning days I felt who knows me? This ‘nobody knows’ released a sense of freedom (negative?) to do whatever wished.
Time teaches. Now I’m conscious with reputation. I must not do any mischief, I’m watched whenever needed.
Now, this sense of “I’m watched” realized that I’m not alone. Its not no man’s island. I must offer help and cooperation to expect the same.
Here comes the value of social networking. Internet life shares many properties directly from real world when talking about community activity and building relationship and mutual trust.
A larger community obviously pushes you to attain better results – the fruits of your hard work.

no man is an island is a poem… I understand the beginning of the poem where it says that We are all important to the world, that we are all part of a whole(correct me if i’m wrong) and that if one of us died that it will cause a dramatic effect to everyone. But what does the second half of the poem mean? Where it says “and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” What does Part mean? Thanksss
