I often talk to new internet marketers and webmasters who, in a fit of excitement, love to try and “crush it” as the expression goes when it comes to off page SEO for their new niche sites.
This can and often does lead to serious and confusing problems in search results or SERP rankings for many. What is really confusing is that search results do in fact respond to efforts and show SERP movement accordingly, but truth be told, it is rarely for the reasons the webmaster believes to be so.
There is an expression in SEO that many SEOs use referred to as “The Honeymoon Period”. The Honeymoon Period is a variable block of time immediately after a site is indexed whereas a whole host of ranking metrics, many behavioral are accumulated and processed as a means to rank any given web page.
What Is This Honeymoon Period You Speak Of?
This “Honeymoon Period” is in many cases half the result of SEO efforts and half the results of the fact that it is sitting in the “Honeymoon Period”.
Now, it must be pointed out that current search engine algorithms have a very tightly defined fingerprint as to what type of link profile, behavioral profile and onsite SEO should be in place if Honeymoon rankings are to be retained once the period ends.
For this reason, many websites and webpages who’s webmaster “crush it” during this timeframe, can and in many cases do, completely waste their time and in some rare cases, can actually get their sites penalized if conditions right. Penalties are more rare than people think. More often than not, post-honeymoon SERP results (you know, when your site falls out of the SERP results) is a function of the fact that the site and the buzz surrounding the site failed to match the required fingerprint for sustained SERP rankings.
So how does a webmaster launch a site and optimize it so as to build it up in a way that “makes it stick”?
To begin: Don’t try to CRUSH IT! Crushing it (i.e. link blasting, spamming, horrendously emboldened link profiles, etc., etc.) does not fit the natural “buzz” surrounding a website that is new. It is true that some indeed go viral and have massive buzz surrounding them very early, but rest assured, if they are experiencing a real buzz, they fit the fingerprint. SEO is about making synthetic buzz look real, which is tough, really tough.
Next: Add great content to your site. Great article, videos, ebooks, whatever it is, you have to have it…legally. Additionally, whether you’re a Black Hat SEO, Blue Hat SEO or White Hat SEO, you have to have great content. Of course, great content is not in itself, the end-all-be-all of a site. Just because you “have it” or just because you “build it” doesn’t mean people will come to your site. Either way, however, you have to have it.
Next: Do some light link building. Actually, you should do some deep linking. Blog commenting and article marketing is usually the best way to do this. Sure, people say that blog commenting and article marketing don’t work. Actually, they do. It is all a function of quality. If you comment on blogs leaving high quality comments that actually add to the discussion and please the blog owner, odds are, your comment will stick, if you don’t, you will fail. The same concept is true with article marketing. If you write and syndicate high quality and informative articles with an eye to adding value you will succeed. If you write crappy or lean content and then you destroy its readability with synonymization software (many people call this spinning, but its not) you will fail. You will fail to brand your operation and you will be labeled as a spammer. Its as simple as that.
Sidenote: All of this, up to this point, is taking place during the honeymoon period which can last anywhere from a month to a year (take that with a grain of salt).
Now Lets CRUSH IT!
Once the honeymoon period ends, then you can CRUSH IT.
Crushing it will consist of the following Blue Hat methods…shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
- Submitting Mass Guest Blog Posts: Honestly, I can’t believe that I am actually going to release this information but here goes. Webmasters and blog masters will actually publish well-spun guest posts, IF THEY DON’T IDENTIFY THEM AS SUCH. This means that the seed that produces the articles has to be perfectly formed both from a grammatical and technical standpoint. That means that you really need to outsource this to someone who knows how to do it. I was duped by this once and so was a fellow SEO that I have known for several years now. I published the spun article on this site and so did he. Why because the article was good. The ONLY reason I found out about it was because I commented on his blog on another spin of the article and finally caught on when I read through it and was like “WHAT THE?” Actually the articles are still in place to this day on both sites because they were good articles. LOL! If you want seeds with that type of power…click here….shhhhhhhh.
- Contract The Services Of A Private Network: Actually, I am in the process of testing a private network as of the writing of this article…not for this site, but for a niche site of a business owner that I work for. Private networks, if you are fortunate enough to find one that works, are worth gold. Depending on the long-tail test results, I will release a link in the near future detailing how to get in touch with him. I have to say that in our initial correspondence, the guy threw around some pretty impressive numbers and stats with respect to his network and pricing and it looks like he has the tools to get the job done, so definitely stay tuned on that one. Actually cancel that. Rather than risk exposing him in a blog post, I will email you the information. If you are interested, just contact me and inquire. Either way, I will be posting a case-study in the near future.
- Buy Some High-Trust Links: Yes, a little investment will be required. Is this ethical? It depends on who you ask. Regardless, it works, and it is alive and well as a practice and it is not going anywhere. Honestly though, what is difference between buying a links and buying an ad? I mean, really.
That’s enough for now. I have written enough to get most of us in trouble. If you take away anything from this article, take away this: Please don’t try to CRUSH IT when it comes to promoting new niche sites, the only people I know who know how to do that are private network owners and article directory owners who have personal access to the data necessary required to determine what “Crushing it” actually is.

The problem with outsourcing is that the writer can spin your article which he says is an original to a dozen times, how would you even know since the internet is so vast. You found about this when you were commenting on his blog, by accident.
I guess the only thing you can do is trust.

before you launch your niche you have to choose it properly. Choosing a niche requires a lot of research for data and facts. So that when you launch your niche it’s a sure hit.

Thanks for these very useful tips. I have to agree, if we want our seo to work, we have to make it natural, don’t rush because it takes time.. There are a lot of seo resources on the web , we just need to choose which one to use.

A common mistake in SEO is when new sites are bombarded with backlinks in their – how you say – “honeymoon period” and then the link building stops. This looks really fishy to Google and the site will drop in SERPs.
A good SEO will begin the link building slowly carefully mixing the links. It is alright to do it even in the “honeymoon period“ as long as it is kept to a decent number of quality links.
Daniel.

Such an informative and useful text! Thanks for sharing these tips, they would be very useful for me. Do these tips fit to the updated google search algorithm? I recognized some negative tendencies in my traffic rates, although I haven’t done any changes in my SEO processes.

A niche website or Blog is the one that focus on one single topic or area. Basically you choose a niche among many categories, I.E; you choose Video Games. That’s the niche of your site and you post only about Video Games, you don’t post about Sports, Poetry or any other subject, only Video Games.

It’s really fun to read the crushing part
but who the hell would do such thing after all the efforts and hard works in building your site, right?
So true, blog commenting is one of the effective technique to generate traffic as well as in article marketing… but the content is really important. Uniqueness and originality is the key, it takes time for the honeymoon period but in the end, it’ll be worth it.
Great article!

The take on this article is fabulists. The truth is out there, the points made here are very well said. Not too many Seo companies talk about the honeymoon period at all let along explain it well. As said crashing can be harmful in the early stages this will not be liked by Google spiders.
The tips about Ping.com and back link indexing. The information provided by you is quality and no BS.
Thanks

@Phil, It starts from the day the site is first indexed…after that the site becomes “crawlable” at a certain rate which can be influenced by a number of factors such as how often you add new article pages, the number of backlinks that increasingly points to it, as well as the frequency you set within your robot.txt files..
As a quick tip, you can use free pinging services like Ping.com and/or PingFarm.com to alert search engine spiders about your content (esp those individual article pages) a bit sooner. A good explanation of pingbacks and trackbacks is given here: http://marketsecrets.biz/trackbacks-pingbacks ..
SEO is indeed a never-ending process so don’t let it drive you crazy and remember to balance everything out by just making sure your content is always on point for real live breathable readers
