To say a thing is “sticky” is to say it stays attached to something…it sticks to a thing like glue.
Wouldn’t it be great if your marketing message got stuck into the minds of your readers so that whenever they thought of a certain product or service (that you just happen to promote) they immediately think of you!?
Well that would be “Nirvana” -the ultimate state of bliss- for any content writer, but especially for marketers because a marketer’s overall objective is for his/her particular marketing messages to be remembered at every corner, turn, nook, and cranny…they need sure fire methods to make their content stick to the minds of their targeted audience.
Here are 3 of the many methods you can use:
- Actually write content worthy of being remembered.Write in a way that causes the reader to think and visualize the satisfaction that comes from selecting your recommended product or service. Be sure to end your writing with some type of open ended question/thought in order to provoke them to respond by either immediately buying, leaving a comment, or both…but you at least want them to comment.People usually remember things that made them think deeply enough to openly comment on. Plus, once you start getting these comments others will take notice under the assumption that it must be “worthy” if someone else took the time to comment. These comments psychologically set up a positive frame within the minds of your audience for all of your future messages as well. Thus, you and your content become “stuck” in their heads.
- Use WordPress’s post-editor to your advantage. While in your admin area’s post-writing or editing mode look for the option to the top right underneath ‘Visibilty‘ labeled ‘Stick this post to the front page’. Selecting this option makes that post (or any excerpt thereof) stay in the top position on on your home page’s Recent Posts regardless of how many newer posts you post thereafter so visitors will always see it prominently. This why on some blogs you may have noticed an older post or two displayed their newest posts on their home pages. They deliberately want you to pay extra attention to the older post near the very top. HINT: It also helps to delete the date from the post ;)
- Design a section above the fold underneath your header or in the top sidebar of your site containing 3 to 5 posts you want to remain “sticky”. You can name it Top Posts, favorite Posts, Featured Posts, etc. The main thing on this is that it will be displayed as sitewide links meaning it’ll pretty much be on every page throughout your site subconsciously sticking to the minds of your visitors. Some examples of this can be seen on Most Popular Articles@Dennis’s blog , Must Read Articles@Ben’s blog, and Freddie’s Featured Posts and Content. Being an advocate of my own advice, I made sections like My Sticky Posts, More Sticky Posts, and Most Active Posts right here on MSB (MarketSecrets.Biz).
There are various other ways for making your site sticky such as allowing others to share your content by passing along free reports like the free and sticky SuperTips ebookor even paid methods such as using press releases and AdBrite’s interstitial ads – which I’ll expand upon in a future post. The important thing is to get your content seen by as many eyeballs as possible for as many times as possible.
OK…now that i have shared my sticky secrets, what’s yours :?:

I’ve used Wordpress new sticky feature a couple of times and I must say it works well as far as highlighting a particular post. It’s probably a good idea to not overdo as as there are some less observant people who may think your posting frequency is less than it actually is.

Sire: Good point…although my posting frequency isn’t quite as high as others simply because I don’t want readers to miss any content. I believe posting frequency should pick up once traffic has built up to a steady pace of say about 200 per day. But then again “stepping up posting frequency” is one way to build up traffic huh
Luis: Go ahead give it a try…don’t be skerd(scared)!

Caleb, that is true, but frequent posting is only advantageous as long as the content is of a high quality, if not then I reckon less is best.

Wordpress just keeps getting better and better, right?!

There may be times when you want one particular WordPress post to appear on the very top even after other posts are made. That option was once done with various plugins but now it is a built-in feature in WordPress version 2.7. This short WordPress guide will show you just how easy it is to do.

Blogs by their nature should be full of fresh content, and tend to be updated daily. If you post original and interesting content – as perceived by your site visitors – then this can be an excellent way to drive repeat visits to your site.

To drive traffic to your Web site, you first need to know who you’d want to attract. The first thing you need to decide is with whom would you like to talk? Who is your ideal readership?
