How I Use Emotional Keywords And Why It Works!

Listen with webreader

A very important part of our marketing work is finding good keywords. The main criteria when choosing a keyword (apart from the good ratio between searches and results) is that we want the people to type that keyword to be in the end of their purchase cycle, looking to “take action” now and not just to “find some info”. This is all very relevant of course. It’s almost like a science. A guy who types “buy a Samsung HLN617w DLP TV” is surely more willing to buy now than a guy typing “not sure whether to buy a new TV or not”. I’m not teaching you anything.

What I do, beside applying the “normal” keywords search strategy, is finding emotional keywords, keywords people type not out of a reasoned search, but mostly to express their desperation in looking for something that can help them with this or that. I don’t know if I’m making myself clear here. What I mean is that people who have tried everything and really need to find a solution to something stop typing things that make sense if I can say so. Of course, this doesn’t apply to every niches, as I’m not sure you’ll find people desperately looking to buy a TV. Well… I’m saying this because I voluntarily don’t have a TV… Anyway.

Let me give you an example.

I did a quick search and the keyword “fed up with food additives” is searched 590 times per month. It’s not a very big number but as there are only 2910 results (exact match), you can be ranked 1st easily. Ok it’s not the best example I could give I guess but the emotional keywords I target in my niche… are the emotional keywords I target in my niche.

Ok, let’s give numbers, there’s a keyword I target that is searched 1000 times a month and there are… 244 000 competitors. Creepy. BUT I’m ranked first!;) This is mostly because the competitors are not big authority websites, they are just forum or blog posts or articles like mine with less backlinks and keyword density.

Why it works I believe is because people who type these emotional keywords don’t expect to find results that exactly match their search so they are even more happy to find a result with their emotional keyword in it and will be willing to read your article, especially if it really talks about what they are expressing and, of course, offers the ultimate solution.

It’s not rocket science, nothing is in this business! But as I had good results with this idea, I just thought I would share it with you guys.

If affiliate marketing drives you crazy…

Take a deep breath! And read these lines. As you know, self promotion is allowed at the bottom of each article commonly in a short “objective” third-person biography form written by the author. I’ll spare you that.

I just want to tell you that my name is Louise, that I’m an internet marketer and that I have a free-spirited, out-of-the-box, fun blog that I dare call “guide” about affiliate marketing (objective, huh?) called The Purple Choice where I talk about strategies, give tools, inspiration and motivation to people starting affiliate marketing.

I also give a free step-by-step internet marketing getting started guide that you might want to grab. Follow the link to read my cool affiliate marketing guide!
