Formulas For Writing Content: Volume 2

Listen with webreader

For those of you who have been keeping track of my guest postings on FamousBloggers you no doubt see a theme in my content citing numerous ways for being creative with your writing while at the same time revealing various episodes in my life’s history. It is my intention to get you to truly know me so to keep in step with this here’s the awaited Volume 2 to my Formula For Writing series:

Before the advent of the internet I bought into a program called “The Secrets To Making Money” whose infomercial was shown on late nights. This program taught me how sell stuff by placing tiny ads in the classified sections of newspapers. A simple one to three line ad with an address or toll-free number for further info actually did and still does bring in an income. This was my introduction to the world of Direct Marketing.

Of course to be effective in direct marketing you must write effective ads that direct people to your product or service. The author gave a classic formula for for this acronymed as AIDA. A stands for attention,I stands for interest,D stands for desire and A for action. In other words:

  • Start with a word or two that immediately grabs the readers attention
  • Then use a few words that engages the readers main interests which is dictated by the type of product/service you’re offering along with the type of medium you’re advertising in
  • Insert words that build up the readers desires for your offer
  • And finally you must clearly state the action they need to perform in order to get your product/service which fulfills their desire

Although the AIDA formula is for writing ads to sell things,it’s just as good for writing articles or blog posts because an article or a blog post is basically for selling;ie,it sells your opinion or unique point of view to the reader.

So from now on try writing using this formula. It may feel weird at first especially if you’re not used to writing in these syles, but believe me, your readers will be far more “into it” rather than than the same old boring style you’ve been writing in.

Here’s a good list of phrase words to plug into these formulas…much success to you.
