Many claim they desire to live the life of a netrepreneur, but as I have pointed out many times in the past it is very tedious. For example, if you wanted to get started from scratch you would have to do the following:
- Do extensive research to decide which niche your site should focus on
- Do extensive research to gather targeted keywords (phrases) the average internet surfer will use to find your site
- Decide on a site name URL and actually purchase that name along with hosting using your real money – NOT monopoly money!
- Correctly install the site – which in most blogger’s cases means WordPress
- Installing all the needed widgets and plugins
- Coming up with “starter content” in order to bring in initial visitors
- Getting backlinks along with all the other forms of getting traffic to your site
- Constantly washing, rinsing, and repeating
How could anyone such as myself do this all day everyday?
Because I like it…I enjoy using my mind in this way. I enjoy visualizing a concept and then making it manifest…I enjoy making something from nothing.
But like the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.” The actual process of learning and implementing how to do it discourages even the most ambitious among us. Besides, just how long would it take you to learn all this stuff? You want to be up and going right now making those big dot-com bucks but the tediousness is frustrating the hell out of you…if only you actually liked this stuff!
Your only solution to get around this is to hire or at least learn from somebody like me.
A good friend of mine did just that a couple of weekends ago. He -not knowing the ins and outs of uploading websites and basic internet infrastructure- asked me point blank to build him a site. He had already purchased the name SplurgeGame.com with hosting and vividly explained his vision to me, so it was up to me to make it come alive.
It started off as a WordPress gallery-themed site, but we switched to another platform in order to accommodate a more “social” type platform where users could get their own page to post their own articles, pics, vids, etc. Here’s where it’s at so far:
Of course this is far from being finished, but you should be able to get the general idea of where it’s heading. I got a few technical issues to work out, but it is coming along nicely and my friend The Popster is ecstatic.
SIDENOTE: He’s called Popster cuz he’s always Popping off something and always Stirring up something!
While doing all the work involved I did not realize how many hours had passed without me being consciously aware. I got fascinatingly caught up in the intracasies of the obstacles involved and instead of getting “frustrated” I took great pleasure in each step of the way. This is usually a sure sign that that thing is something you are definitely into. But the weird thing is I only want to do more and getting paid for it is just the icing on the cake :)
The lesson here is simple:
Either do what you like and outsource the parts you don’t like or sacrifice the time to learn…
Now tell us are you really doing what you like :?:

I just love learning and implementing what I’ve learnt but to seize the opportunity time offers I always outsource!

I would sacrifice the time to learn because learning new skills is never a lost, regardless of whether I like it or not. Knowledge is still knowledge. Perhaps after learning it and I still don’t like it, then I’d outsource it. But at the very least, I know I can do it myself if I want to!
Just my two cents’ worth.

I agree with you Foong -but sort of like BMB above you- if there’s a time sensitive offer, then perhaps outsourcing is better at first because learning a thing well will definitely take time … then you can go back to learn the outsourced part. I guess it all depends on the particular project.
Remember that it takes alot of cents/sense to make some dollars and since we’re all about making $$ here your coins are always welcomed :!:

You have mentioned the basic steps one by one and in perfect sequence. My hard time is always to find out the keyword and phases which visitor choose to land up at my website.

Anne: Your hard time is basically the crux of this whole make money online thing. An extremely effective solution for you is to thoroughly track your site visitors using Google Analytics. It not only tells you what keywords your visitors use, but also where they came from (geo location, the search engine they used, site referral, etc.) plus how long they stayed on a particular page and more…
For example, just the other day I learned from GA that my second biggest traffic source is India…but I still haven’t found out why -which is taking further analyzing on my part.

Hi Caleb,
I have no problem with learning, I do love to tweak my site and do some coding but I am not very techie, so sometimes I need the help of others to finish what I start it.

After doing this for a few years, I must admit that what you say is SO true! It takes time and the commitment to succeed. As you say, either learn to do it or hire someone to do it for you but as well all know, people starting out don’t have the cash reserves to pay someone so they will either teach themselves and learn or give up and never realize their dream.
Cheers,
Jagger

Kansas: Honestly, almost any niche can be made profitible…but if you are still in your beginning stages, I would suggest you start out with a niche you already like and have some knowlege on because it will be an easier subject for you to write on – You didn’t think you were going to get on with this without writing did you?
Just think about something (legalðical of course) that you would do or enjoy even if you didn’t get paid for it, then you will have come very close to the niche you need to start out with. Although, others may tell you to research successful niches and choose one it may NOT be something you can put any passion into which means it probably won’t ever manifest!
Choose a niche you already know something about and make sure you study my Writing Solutions For Netrepreneurs series.

I think its important to do what you like. Find something that will earn you enough money to make you live comfortably but something that you will enjoy at the same time…. But Man.. my dad says this all of the time “the devil is in the details.” Actually I have heard it soo many time that it’s gotten quite annoying.
