Search Engine Optimization is no doubt a term you have heard often spoken of as a free way to draw visitors to your site. By adhering to certain industry guidelines such as using keywords in your articles that you wish to be found for whenever someone does a search on the web along with getting other popular sites to link to your content, your site gets ranked accordingly. And what many smart marketers tend to do is make sure the landing page that a searcher reaches from a searched keyword phrase is one that has a signup form for them to capture the name and email address of said searcher.
The smart marketer then sends a series of followup messages to build rapport with the potential customer and “soft sale” them on other products and/or services over time.
They have taken the need for the landing page out of the equation. Instead of a link within search engine results that go to a signup form, they are testing ways of putting the signup form directly into the results listing itself! Take a look at this screenshot to see what I mean:
Although they are still in the testing stages only letting in certain industry leaders -such as Aweber in this case- once it is released for other marketers like myself 
to use I believe it will revolutionize the way list building is done. Think how much easier it would be to have your subscription form appear smack right on the first page of a Google search result?!
And it seems I’m not the only one who thinks so, just look at what WebProNews had to say:

This will no doubt be an incredibly popular ad format for Google, and I can’t imagine them not making it widely available.
Really, it should be a great thing for the entire email marketing industry. It may never even occur to people searching for various topics that there are even email newsletters related to what they’re looking for. (Read more here…)

I suggest you look into Facebook more than Google as it can do great things for your email list. First, install a ‘like’ button on your page. Facebook users easily click on pages that give them the option of doing so. Add a ‘share’ button on the page for Twitter while you’re at it.
You can use Mailchimp to build a form that users will fill out giving you their contact information. If you offer a free report or some reward for their opt-in after they fill out the form, you are much more likely to get their attention. Mailchimp makes it easy to build the form, which you will use to capture the minimal ‘required’ information from the viewer in order for them to collect the free prize. A prize might be as simple as a well written report on a downloadable pdf file that gives them some inside information on a relevant subject. They sign up, you send the report automatically to their email address (get it?) and bingo! (See “How to Add an email Capture Form to a FaceBook Fan Page“)

Although social media is the way to spread the word about your growing business, you will still want to keep an email list with which to contact your potential and current customers and contacts. Email has unique capabilities for marketing that don’t exist in the use of social media exclusively.
So deciding not to abandon your old email advertising campaign, you’ll want to continue to grow your contact list. If you know the recipients of your messages somehow, whether through Facebook or in person, when your email comes to them they are more likely to open it. If they have signed up to receive your information, it won’t come through as spam.

This post is very interesting. I had know idea google was looking into doing that with search results. That would be so cool and I imagine really make it even that much more beneficial to be in the top 10 for your keyword. I hope they go through with it and take care of signups for websites.

@Jim Syyap, I only found out about it sort of by accident while doing research on ways of tracking subscriber behavior, then “boom” there was the optin form right on Google so I just had to take a screenshot of it..a few days later I came across the article I referenced on WebProNews.
I’m really looking forward to being able to implement this because email marketing is definitely what I consider to be one of the most important aspects to making money online.
