Another affiliate check just arrived in the mail…sweet! I love making money online. It provides the perfect medium for showcasing something you have for sale. But the best part is I don’t have to physically move an inch. Everything happens in the virtual world. The only physicalities are my fingers on the mouse and keyboard and the physical checks that come in the mail. My usual answer is that I sell just about  any product or service you would find at a brick&mortar shopping mall. To put it simply,I sell any and everything. You can imagine the looks on people’s faces as I say this.

But recently it occurred to me what I really do sell ALL the time: MY THOUGHTS!

Although,I operate online shopping sites that do sell almost everything,it’s my thoughts that do the actual selling. I have to think of compelling ads that move people to purchase the product/service I decide (decisions are made mentally) is worthy. The site the customer lands on is designed from the thoughts and visions in my mind. The content a person reads on the site is mentally thought up and typed by me. If a customer needs help with something I have to think of the best way to provide the service. Technical issues regarding the site has to be thoroughly investigated and operated on by me. If my business’s integrity gets attacked I have to think of the best words to use in order to defend it. This whole business of the internet itself is mainly a conceptual thing - a thing of mental thinking.

In fact,everything I do along with any success I experience is a direct result from my thinking.

This explains why once you learn how to sell -which involves thinking- or the psychological art of selling you’ll be able to sell anything. It’s not the particular product or service,it’s the thoughts of the seller of those particular products and services that matters most. This is why when different people sell the same stuff certain sellers will always make more pennies than the rest…the difference among them resides in their different thinking styles.

When are you going to start earning pennies for your thoughts?

One of the features I’ve come to really appreciate within WordPress is its ability to serve different types of ad formats. And though there are several applications or plugins that performs this function,my favorite is the AdSenseDeluxe plugin.

The application is in the form of a file that you upload to your site’s WordPress plugin folder. Once uploaded you will see Adsense Deluxe Plugin underneathe the ‘Options’ tab on your WordPress dashboard. Clicking on it brings you to a page where you paste in your entire Adsense HTML code with your unique id in it,name the campaign,then use an excutable line to call it into action.

The executable line looks like this:

…and like this with the ‘DIV’ tags:
<p style=”float: right; margin: 5px”><!–adsense#bloggingtothebank–></p>

Wherever you insert this line into your site’s template is where that particular block of adsense ads will be visibly shown. You can paste/enter as many different Adsense codes as you want all with their own campaign names. This is how I’m able to put ad blocks inside my posts and with the proper use of DIV tags around the executable line I can position it anyway I choose.

Another exceptional feature of this plugin is that I can use other HTML codes besides just Adsense. I can use ad HTML codes from various affiliate programs,from images,and videos. All I need is the correct executable line which is based on the campaign name I chose. This one line saves a lot of time versus putting whole entire codes in the different areas of a site…defiinitely a tool for efficiency.

Now…if I can just get it to work on WordPress version 2.5.1

Is the customer even important anymore? I can’t tell from all the runarounds some companies send you through. Bad customer service is one of the biggest reasons to stop doing business with someone. Nine times out of ten I’m contacting the customer service because I have a question or there’s something wrong with the service. It would seem they would be in a more compassionate mode eager to find a clean resolution.

Instead this is what these companies do:

1. Ask a bunch of unnecessary questions
2. Reword the whole dilemma to make it seem like I’m the one at fault
3. While some companies don’t even have a real live person…it’s an answering machine or one of those virtual agents.

One company thats been ticking many people off is Ebay. You would figure it to be simple for a multi-billion dollar company like Ebay to properly handle the concerns of their customers,yet they purposely take the position that you need them more than they need you and so they treat you accordingly. Ebay acts like emperors oblivious to the knowledge of who put them on top - the customer! Here’s an excerpt from CipherSearch regarding their customer NON-service:

Things go wrong, then you get an email from them which has numerous links. If you see this, this is the  of the runaround. They have a goal to retain their account receivables, what they earn for your listing. If they help and pay a claim, I think it is up to $200 now, then that depletes their earnings….

Actually,I too have had a customer complaint before. It was an affiliate program promoting an advertising ebook. Although I had sold many of these without any problems one customer claimed they never received the download. I alerted the author/manager of the program to no avail. As time went by the customer grew highly impatient with me,so I ended up giving a refund along with another ebook of the same caliber. This was suppose to be handled by the affiliate program team - not me out of my own pockets. So I naturally discontinued my affiliation with them…they showed no care for the customer nor me their faithful affiliate.

After going through that little fiasco I realized I could have just given the customer a copy of the ebook I originally purchased -as it’s always a good idea to first buy the products you intend to promote. Big “duh” on my part. Oh well,at least I got a good learning experience out of it. Now I see it can prove to be very prudent to test out the customer service of a company before deciding to do business with them. This can be done by using their ‘customer service’ system to ask questions seeing how long it takes for them to respond as well as if the info is helpful or just another runaround.

This is extremely necessary before deciding to promote an affiliate program as well. You don’t want to be stuck with without a chair once their customer NONservice kicks in. That customer will blame you alone because you just happened to be their immediate point of contact. And if you do end up in this situation please don’t try explaining the concepts of affiliate marketing to the customer as it will only seem like you’re scapegoating which adds more to the ruining of your business reputation.
